Friday's Thought - Vision

Happy Friday to all – I hope it has been a great week for you!  Now that our 2014 plans are hopefully in the works, I thought it might be a good idea to check and see where we are in regards to successfully implementing those plans.  I am confident that from a personal standpoint my main goal will happen assuming that I keep focused, focused on the desired result and focused with the right attitude toward that desired result.  How about you?

Recently I ran across the following quote by author, Joe Calloway - “Vision without execution is a hallucination.”

It is imperative that as professionals, we set our sights on the end result - while at the same time, knowing exactly how to get there. Success Is not an accident. Successful people aren't necessarily any smarter than anyone else and no, they aren't doing it with just "dumb luck" either. They have identified what they want to do, they have a plan on how to do it and when and where to implement their plan. As you have heard me say before, like Nike, they "Just Do it!" They intimately know their plan, they effectively and methodically execute their plan and their plan is nothing short of real, it is not a hallucination! Legendary NFL football coach, Vincent Lombardi, once said, " It's time for us all to stand and cheer for the doer, the achiever - the one who recognizes the challenge and does something about it." "Doers" as Lombardi talks about, are those with a specific vision and who are not afraid to go out and execute their plan. their plan is not a hallucination, their plan of attack is as clear as day. It's almost predictable. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow tells us, "It takes less time to do things right than to explain why you did it wrong." Always strive to execute your plan correctly the first time and at the same time always keep focused on exactly what your visions, your expectations and your personal and professional goals really are.

In developing your plan (your vision) you have to recognize that your attitudes and behavior play a significant role in whether or not your execution will ultimately be successful. You have to get outside of what has always worked for you in the past and try new things (Get outside of the dreaded "Box!"). Status quo is great, but more times than not, it creates false expectations (hallucinations). As Albert Einstein said, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result." Don't always rely on what you consider to be a sure thing to execute your plan and reach your goals. The end result may not always be a sure thing and in the overall scheme of things, it may not even be enough! Remain focused on what is your vision and then stay committed to executing your plan. Deviating from the course will only create additional obstacles along your way and they could possibly slow down and even de-rail the execution of your plan. Therefore, remember to always be consistent in the way you approach your goals and expectations. Your strategy is your game plan, it's no one else's. Only you can take true ownership in what you do. You can be seen as the "Doer" and always execute your strategy - assuming you have the ability and the vision to do so.

To quote Christian Nevell Bovee, "It is the nature of thought to find its way into action." Are you thinking your way through your plans, creating a meaningful vision that you can effectively and methodically execute? If not, what you are seeing as an end result, may not be real after all. Not only won't the end result be real, but the end result probably will not be what is desired. The desired outcome will merely be a hallucination!

You control your vision. You control your execution. You control the desired result!

Keep the focus always.

"You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you are going because you might not get there."

- Yogi Berra
